Introducing Alphonse Smith
by Laura Theriot
Introducing the newest member of our team, Alphonse Smith.
We are pleased to announce that after spending a year volunteering for the Arts Council, Alphonse has now joined the Arts Council New Orleans as Associate Director of Place & Intervention. Alphonse received a degree in media studies from Xavier University of Louisiana and a law degree from the Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge. While working with litigation management teams to organize processes related to Hurricane Katrina and Gulf Coast disaster recovery, Alphonse worked with community artists and organizations to reestablish cultural and entrepreneurial footprints in post Katrina New Orleans.
In 2013, Alphonse began volunteer work with the Arts Council New Orleans’ Youth Solutions Civic Design Project, and shortly after, served as director of the Creative Alliance of New Orleans’ Creative Futures Program. Having worked with many artists and creative organizations – the McKenna Museum of African American Art, the British Council, NOCCA, and the Xavier University of New Orleans Department of Art to name a few.
Help us in welcoming Alphonse to the Arts Council New Orleans!
