Saturday, December 17th
The Wextet | 1-2 and 2:30-3:30
The Wexet is pianist Josh Wexler’s traditional New Orleans jazz band. The group plays not only the canon of great New Orleans trad jazz tunes, but songs from genres as disparate as modern pop (Radiohead) and classic soul (Al Green), and gives them the New Orleans treatment.
Sunday, December 18th
Country for Old Men | 1-2 and 2:30-3:30
Country for Old Men plucks the finest New Orleans musicians from their regular bands (Pete Orr from The Fens, Stoo Odom from R. Scully’s Rough 7, Roxanne Guidry from Rik Slave’s Country Persuasion, Josh Wexler from The Essentials) and draws upon their shared love for the most uniquely American musicla tradition- old time country music. From Hank Williams and Patsy Cline to Merle Haggard and Conway Twitty, Country For Old Men plays their favorite old tunes with a simple fidelity to the original sound of the live music before studio production drove mass commercial success.
