Convergence Center for the Arts
The mission of Convergence draws inspiration from its name, coming together to create. To accomplish this the Center provides a place for artists to dialogue and display their works, showcasing a variety of mediums throughout the year, while also providing community art classes and summer programs for both adults and
children.
In all, Convergence exists to encourage the artistic community of New Orleans and through them to display beauty, truth and meaning. Recognizing New Orleans’ place as a mecca of creative soul, the Center desires to restore hope by using art to influence the culture that is and, through art, to create the culture that ought to be.
Convergence Center for the Arts is owned and operated by Sojourn-Lakeview Church. Sojourn began having public worship services in the Uptown neighborhood of New Orleans in the Spring of 2008. The new church was made up mostly of young creative types eager to see a church where genuine spiritual growth and community was taking place. Convergence was founded out of a sincere desire to see beauty, hope and meaning displayed and encouraged in New Orleans. In the Fall of 2008, the church found community and shared vision with Lakeview Baptist Church and in the beginning of 2009 the two congregations merged. Lakeview Church also has a rich history of relationship and support of the artist community of New Orleans. It was only natural that Convergence would follow Sojourn out to Lakeview.
