While in New Orleans\, the chair of the National Endowment for the Arts\, Dr. Maria Rosario Jackson\, and council members will meet with state and local arts leaders\, visit arts organizations\, and participate in a public meeting on Friday\, June 23 that will feature presentations by local artists and arts organizations. The meeting will be held at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA) beginning at 11 a.m. and will be open to the public to attend in person or watch online at arts.gov. \n\n\n\nThe National Council on the Arts advises the chair of the National Endowment for the Arts\, Dr. Maria Rosario Jackson\, who also chairs the Council\, on agency policies and programs\, and reviews and makes recommendations to the chair on applications for grants\, funding guidelines\, and leadership initiatives. \n\n\n\n“Louisiana has a rich arts ecosystem that contributes to both its strong cultural identity as well as its community resilience\,” said Maria Rosario Jackson\, PhD. “I look forward to experiencing and learning more about the area’s cultural vitality as well as how national\, regional\, state\, and local support efforts impact arts organizations and the wide range of urban\, suburban\, and rural communities they serve.” \n\n\n\n“The National Council of the Arts and the National Endowment of the Arts serve a vital role in supporting art in our country. High step your way to Ogden Museum of Southern Art on Saturday\, January 13 from 1pm-3pm. \n\n\n\nEnjoy free admission\, a special appearance by St. Augustine Marching 100\, sweet treats by La Vie En Rose Cafe\, giveaways\, and more celebrating the latest mural masterpiece by legendary New Orleans artist Keith Duncan! \n\n\n\nKEITH DUNCAN MURAL NEW ORLEANS\, 2024 \n\n\n\nCreated by New Orleans-native Keith Duncan\, this mural pays tribute to a grand tradition of marching band pageantry and performance at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Dressed in an invented uniform decorated with the fleur-de-lis\, the monumental acrobatic drum major additionally symbolizes the vibrant spirit and rich musical traditions synonymous with the city of New Orleans. Set against a highly patterned background\, the allegorical figure alludes to Duncan’s continued engagement with the subjects of HBCU marching bands and musicians. The archetypical drum major—a representation of Black excellence— alludes to the collective mission of all HBCUs to promote Black knowledge production and preserve cultural heritage.

DESCRIPTION:Arts New Orleans presents an exhibition of inspiring art and fashion Thursday\, March 14th from 4:30 – 6:30 pm at Salon Artist Studios located on the second floor of Canal Place. \n\n\n\nPresented through support from the National Endowment of the Arts this exhibition features an eclectic mix of artworks aimed to explore viewers perceptions and presentations of self. \n\n\n\nFull Moon Interludes by Muffin Bernstein\, this contemplative work brings together and is comprised of Bernsteins’s photo documentation of the moon every month for the last three years. \n\n\n\nJoy to Me is Your Joy by Emmanuel Bruins is an ongoing collection of recorded joys Bruins reveals the innerworkings of personal joy in his projected interviews. \n\n\n\nButter-Fly by Robyn Myers and Tia Green is an interactive artwork expressing joy and encouraging visitors to scratch the surface and share their personal joys and pleasures. \n\n\n\nFlorescence Afrimodiste Collection by Renee Johnson explores the interconnection between life\, death and our place in the universe in her latest wearable technology design collection. \n\n\n\nAwakening a Kayie Collection by Van Shawn Branch alludes to the moment of becoming and is inspired by the metaphysical energies of crystals. Illuminated clothing interprets the effects of opening the chakras and aligning one’s inner light with their public persona. \n\n\n\nPhotography by Wyshonda Marshall documenting Afrimodiste’s Florescence collection and Bryce Ells photography of Kayie’s Awakening collection will be on view during the exhibition. \n\n\n\n“UPLIFT explores the ways that artists use a variety of mediums to elevate and inspire others\,” Arts New Orleans Creative Director Lindsay Glatz said. “This exhibition shares Arts News Orleans sentiment that creatively expressing oneself is an empowering and uplifting experience.” \n\n\n\nPresenting artists comprise a mix of creatives who have participated in Arts New Orleans New Media Artist Training supported by the National Endowment for the Arts and residents of Salon Artist Studios\, a unique artist residency created in partnership with Canal Place which provides complimentary space to artists to create and exhibit their work within a luxury mall setting.

DESCRIPTION:Arts New Orleans and Prospect New Orleans are thrilled to announce the unveiling of New Orleans based artist\, Anastasia Pelias’ It was my pleasure\, now permanently installed at St. John Park\, on Saint Bernard Ave and Allen Toussaint Blvd\, between New York St and Frankfort St. \n\n\n\nThis permanent work\, originally debuted in the city of New Orleans as part of Prospect 5: Yesterday we said Tomorrow\, will be part of the City of New Orleans Percent for Art collection. \n\n\n\nJoin us for a champagne toast and celebration honoring this occasion on Saturday\, April 13\, 2024 from 2pm-5pm at St. John Park\, on Saint Bernard Ave and Allen Toussaint Blvd\, between New York St and Frankfort St. \n\n\n\nAbout the Artist \n\n\n\n Anastasia Pelias\, a multidisciplinary New Orleans artist\, creates site-specific installations that delve into personal history\, familial relationships\, and human rituals. The sculpture It was my pleasure is a reimagining of the tripod of the Oracle of Delphi\, and draws inspiration from feminist narratives of spirituality and power\, intertwined with ancient Greek mythology. \n\n\n\nThe permanent installation is intended as a meditative space for contemplation and for honoring divine feminine energy across space and time. In this work Pelias seeks to create connections between her native city of New Orleans and Greece\, her family’s ancestral country of origin.  \n\n\n\nWeighing 1\,000 pounds and crafted from fiberglass\, the sculpture was first unveiled at Capdevielle Place Park on October 23\, 2021\, the opening of Prospect.5 and remained on site until the end of P.5 on  January 23\, 2022.  \n\n\n\nArts New Orleans\, Prospect.5\, and Anastasia Pelias worked with the Lake Terrace Property Owner Association and Lakefront Management Association (LMA) to have It was my pleasure permanently relocated to St. John Park\, on Saint Bernard Ave and Allen Toussaint Blvd\, between New York St and Frankfort St. \n\n\n\nLearn more about Anastasia Pelias’ It was my pleasure here.
