Arts New Orleans has partnered with Canal Place Shopping Center to offer free studio and exhibition space in a retail storefront within the center.

For 2024 we are opening artist studios up to fashion designers and offering an opportunity for visual artists to exhibit their work within the space. These opportunities include:

Each Salon resident will be also be assigned a dedicated exhibition space for their designs in one of the Salon storefront rooms. Designers will be recognized on Arts New Orleans website, social media channels, and on the Salon storefront windows. Designer activation and events will be supported by Arts New Orleans promotions and marketing.

In exchange, Salon resident designers are required to commit to the following:

· A minimum of 15 assigned open studio hours each week, between the hours of 11am – 7pm. Times will be assigned at the start of the residency and maintained weekly.

· Must track sales monthly and provide 10% of sales as a studio rental fee by the 1st of each month.

· Create an event or activation within the space during their residency.

· Share photo and video content of their work with Arts New Orleans for Salon promotion.

Ideal candidates are designers who are seeking to grow their professional practice, actively release new designs and collections and can work well in a collaborative and communal setting.

Visual Artist Showcase

Throughout the course of 2024 select visual artists will be invited to exhibit their work in conjunction with the existing fashion designs. Participating visual artists will be given access to the storefront Salon walls to create a custom exhibition of their work coordinated in partnership with Arts New Orleans Creative Director and Salon Studio Manager, who will provide support to the artist during the exhibition. These pop-up exhibitions will be supported through an artist opening event and show announcement. Visual artist exhibitions are expected to last for one-month intervals.

Artist’s work does not need to speak directly to fashion but will need to complement the existing fashion designers work in the space.

In exchange, visual artists will be required to:

· Transport and hang work within the space on their own.

· Be present in Salon 8 hours per week during their exhibition timeframe.

· Provide content regarding the exhibition to Arts New Orleans promotions team.

· Track sales and provide 10% of exhibition sales as a space rental fee.

· Repair walls to their original exhibition condition, including patching holes and painting walls as needed.
