About the Murals:
The People by Brandan “BMIKE” Odums is a monumental mural that celebrates the everyday heroes of New Orleans. A New Orleans-based visual artist known for exploring the intersection of art and resistance, Odums uses his work to engage communities in dialogue through exhibitions, public programs, and large-scale murals. Located at the City Hall Annex, the mural features towering portraits of a musician, elders[GU1] , and a mother holding a child. By portraying these figures as giants, the mural honors their unique contributions while inspiring pride and unity within the community. Positioned outside City Hall, it serves as a powerful reminder of the voices and values that shape New Orleans.
Love Letter to New Orleans by Carl Joe Williams is a dynamic mural that represents the artist’s personal and artistic transformation. Deeply rooted in the regional landscape, the work draws inspiration from the mighty Mississippi River, weaving abstract shapes and architectural elements into a fluid composition. Patterns and imagery move through the piece like the river itself, creating a metaphorical current that reflects the spirit and geography of New Orleans. Williams, a New Orleans-born artist known for blending reality with abstraction, offers a vision of possibility, reflection, and connection—giving back to the city that shaped him.
