Located at Backatown Plaza in the Claiborne Innovation District, Deeply Rooted was created by Lead Artists Ojo Akinlana and Hoze Dara, with Supporting Artists Rickey Mathieu, Stephen Compton, Jamal Barnes, Noel Dauzart, Zechariah Pierre, and Derrick Bell.
Commissioned through the City of New Orleans Percent for Art Program, managed by Arts New Orleans in collaboration with Ujamaa Economic Development Corporation.
Through striking color and symbolism, Deeply Rooted pays tribute to the oaks and vibrant neighborhoods that once flourished beneath the Claiborne Bridge — a powerful reminder of the strength and beauty that continue to thrive in this historic corridor.
