Unveiling ‘Drum Major of NOLA’ by Keith Duncan at Ogden Museum of Southern Art

On January 13th, 2024, a crowd of nearly 500 gathered at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art to revel in the dedication of ‘Drum Major of NOLA’ by Keith Duncan. A mural that marks the tenth installment of the Unframed Project series, a collaborative effort between Arts New Orleans and The Helis Foundation.

“This initiative is dedicated to enhancing the daily experiences of New Orleans’ residents and visitors by showcasing exceptional artworks in our Arts District,” stated Joycelyn Reynolds, President and CEO of Arts New Orleans.

Highlighting the dynamic stance of a Black Drum Major set against Mexican tile patterns, the mural symbolizes the celebration of diverse artistic expressions and acknowledges the cultural influence of Black and Brown communities on New Orleans.

We extend our gratitude to everyone who joined us in celebrating Keith’s monumental new work. Special thanks to The Helis Foundation and Ogden Museum of Southern Art, as well as the artistic team of Keith Duncan, Wendo Brunoir, and Jolean Williams-Laborde for bringing this masterpiece to life.
